The user writes complex math expressions in MathJournal and the product generates numerical solutions, symbolic solutions, and plots. MathJournal stores constants, intervals, and functions that the user defines for repeated use. Unlike traditional math software, MathJournal automatically recognizes the type of problem written, and it presents a variety of appropriate solution types, including 2D and 3D plots.
With MathJournal, math students immediately get to work solving and visualizing math problems because they write math expressions based on the handwritten math conventions they have learned since childhood. Users can solve problems, draw, and annotate in MathJournal and then copy and paste their work t o other applications, such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Windows Journal. Microsoft Excel benefits from MathJournal's new "Copy Data" feature, which enables users to capture data from MathJournal's 2D plots, 3D plots, and animation controls and paste it into a spreadsheet.
MathJournal is fully MathML-aware. MathML is the standard for typeset math on the World-wide Web. Free plugin software, such as MathPlayer from Design Science, Inc., enables MathJournal to automatically convert math expressions from handwritten Ink to typeset MathML, and back again. A series of "Basic Tour" videos in the online help for MathJournal 2.0 demonstrate this and many other features.
