I have since few weeks the Allnet NAS 6200 The price/value is super! With an ftp program it works perfectly inside the network... I forwarded port 21 and 20 to the internal IP of the NAS. But it isn´t reachable from outside the network. (I work with DDNS) For the Allnet IP cam, I have no problems. It is up and running over port 80. All functions work as should be. I contacted Allnet Support, but no answer. I´m beginning to wonder IF they have a working support. Does anybody has the same problem with the Allnet NAS 6200, or better: has somebody the thing up and running like it should? Or can somebody with another NAS product help me, or is there anybody else who can help? Thank in advice!!!!

Hi. Just forwarding port 20 and 21 to your NAS is not sufficient to get FTP to work. FTP works in one of two modes: Active mode: The server receives a connection on the control channel (port 21) and then actively connects back to the client when data is transfered. This connection from the server to the client may be blocked by either your firewall or the one your client is behind. Passive mode: The server waits passively for both the control and again for the data connection. The server is listening on port 21 for connections from clients. When a client connects to the control channel, the server opens a random unprivileged (> 1024) port for the data channel. The server sends this port number on the control channel back to the client, which opens a connection to the data channel. Port 20 is not used at all. Again, a firewall may block the FTP connection as the client connects to an unprivileged port (> 1024) to the server. Most FTP servers have a configuration option for passive mode which allows to limit the unprivileged ports to a given range (say: 5400-5410). Then, you could open this range in your firewall.

Hi, I have the Allnet NAS 6200 perfectely working as it should. FTP is reachable (using DynDNS) and sections can be accessed depending upon username/password. I agree, good value for money. Did you try to reach the server on the IP address? Does your ISP supports the setup of a FTP server?
