The D-Link ShareCenter Shadow (DNS-325) is a 2-bay Network Attached Storage (NAS) device with backup and media features that make it ideal for storing, sharing and protecting valuable digital content.

The ShareCenter Shadow enables users to share documents and media content such as photos, music and videos on a network or over the Internet. File access is easy and straightforward with the built-in web file server, which allows users to browse and download stored files over the Internet. The more technical user can manage the contents of their ShareCenter Shadow from any FTP client.

The DLNA-certified Media Server will stream the media content in your ShareCenter Shadow to any compatible media player - such as the PlayStation 3, Microsoft Xbox 360, and the Boxee Box by D-Link - over your local network. The ShareCenter Shadow allows for multiple simultaneous streams, so you can watch a movie in your entertainment center while someone else listens to music streamed onto their computer.

The ShareCenter Shadow can be taylored to you needs with powerful add-ons that enhance functionality and allow you to do more. Squeeze Center and Audio Streamer allow you to stream music on your home network. With AjaXplorer you can share files over the Internet on any web browser. PhotoCenter will create professional photo galleries and slideshows, and with the Blog add-on, you can create your own blog and always keep it updated.

The ShareCenter Shadow is compatible with Apple's Time Machine. Users of Apple computers can use this powerful feature to backup their valuable files and computer settings directly onto the ShareCenter Shadow, or perform a full system recovery in case a computer fails.

The ShareCenter Shadow comes with a Gigabit port for the fastest connectivity on your network through your router. RAID 1 technology ensures that you never lose your valuable data by mirroring the contents of one hard drive onto the other, so if one drive fails, your data is still safe.

Confidentiality and integrity of files is enforced by giving rights to specific users or groups and assigning them to folders with read/write permissions. This function is ideal for the home, where children's access can be restricted to only age-appropriate materials, and ensuring that nobody can delete important files by accident. In a business environment this feature ensures that confidential information can only be accessed by authorized employees.

The ShareCenter Shadow is part of D-Link Green, D-Link's program for providing eco-friendly alternatives without compromising on performance: if the hard drives are not used in a configurable period of time, or data is not being transmitted, the ShareCenter Shadow will go into stand-by mode to save power. Also, the silent fan will adapt its speed depending on the hard drives' temperature.

• Enjoy performance, protection, and flexibility
  The availability of four different hard drive modes allows users to choose the configuration best suited to their needs. Standard mode creates two separately accessible hard drives. JBOD combines both drives to create a single, easy to use volume. RAID 0 combines both drives in a "striped" configuration, which provides the highest performance when using a Gigabit Ethernet connection. RAID 1 creates a copy of your data on both drives, providing maximum protection; if one drive fails while configured as RAID 1, the unaffected drive continues to function as a single drive until the failed drive is replaced. The drive will then be re-mirrored, allowing the ShareCenter Shadow to return to its full level of protection.
